Discussion Questions

1) Can you point to any life decisions you have made based on a desire to be successful by the world’s standards?

2) Why would the apostle John say that loving God and loving the things the world offers are mutually exclusive (1 John 2:15–17)?

3) First John 2:15–17 details three categories of the world’s offerings: 1) A craving for physical pleasure, 2) A craving for material things, and 3) Pride in our achievements and posses- sions. With which of these three categories do you struggle most?

4) Given the course of your life, will you have anything to “take with you” into eternity?

5) Look again at the chart on page XX. Which “Things of the World” are the most tempting to love? In light of that answer, which “Things of the Father” are most critical for you to embrace for your spiritual survival?

6) Embracing true success while still living in the world is tricky business. With which tenets of worldly success are you currently wrestling to give up?
